Crocs

I’ve never before had a pair of Crocs. They sound like a great idea around water in warm weather, but they are very expensive for what they are and so I made do with what an Aussie would call ‘thongs’, jandals or flip-flops here in Ireland.

But eventually the idea of Crocs filtered through to action and I bought a pair for €53. The idea of a plastic clog appeals to me. But they are uncomfortable, don’t come close to fitting the shape of my feet, and are not suitable for walking on sand. I wore them for a few hours on Lettergesh Beach in Ireland and they were a disaster. I had to take them off and walk barefoot.

When I got home it was clear why they are so uncomfortable. There are great big rivets holding the straps in place that dig into the sides of my feet. So I cut the straps off and now they are just a pair of plastic clogs. They are still uncomfortable, but at least I can wear them for short walks without injuring my feet.

What gets me is that the design of those rivets is just plain stupid. Blind Freddy could tell you they would drill into people’s feet. Drop me a line at dave@cascadepixels.com.au if you have any experience you can share.
